Well, it was a lot of work, but my new book is now available.
Discover SAP SCM
The book is titled Discover SAP SCM and is published by SAP Press. It provides an overview of the entire SAP SCM suite and is a good book for those new to SCM, for those who work in SCM, but looking to get a broader view. It is also useful for decision makers as a guide for which specific modules in SCM offer their companies the highest opportunity. It includes an overview of all the modules in SCM, but also chapters on how SCM has developed as of 7.0 and frank coverage of topics related how to get more value from SCM and how to perform ROI analysis on prospectiveSCM projects.

Pingback: GATP « SAP SCM Planning
Hi Shaun,
First of all, I would like to commend you on this very neat and organized site/blog on SCM. As an SAP supply chain practitioner myself, I have always yearned for an insightful/meaningful blog on SCM and APO, but sadly there seems to be a dearth of them out here–maybe because nobody has really found the time to write about their thoughts and discoveries, or (more dissapointingly) people just dont find any interest or care much about SCM at all.
So, I am glad to have found your site while i was googling for a GATP book (I searched for “sap gatp book” and your site came out on top). I am not sure how you got yourself started in learning about SCM or APO, but from where I come from, I had to learn it the hard way. Virtually no company that I have been with (and these are big multinational companies at that) has ever given me any formal SAP or SCM training to support me in my work. I basically learned “on the job” and thru SAP press SCM books (which I had to order and purchase with my own personal money).
Over the years, I think I have purchased almost all the available SAP APO books that have been published. I have come to appreciate these books as they have more often than not helped me in my projects and continue to serve as a solid reference in my SCM career.
Given that, I have noticed that not much has been published about the following modules in APO:
1) GATP
2) TLB
3) TP/VS
All three of these are talked about in Dickersbach’s book “Supply Chain Management with APO” in short chapters and in a more technical level. Other than that, I know of no other APO book out there that covers these topics in both a high level as well as in a more detailed application level.
It would definitely be nice to see these less-used modules in some book out there. Nonetheless, I am sure to get a copy of your book when it comes out.
GQ, I was just going through and reading my old comments and I noticed yours.
The lack of a book on GATP is something I have noticed as well. Its particularly problematic as GATP in my opinion is the most difficult module to configure. It my view SAP needs to redesign the configuration area of GATP to be more logical. As for TP/VS, TM by SAP Press is out now, underwhich TP/VS is included. So while I have not read the book myself, it would be the one I would get. Dickersbach’s books is very thorough. Springer just released a new edition, which I did purchase. The one difference with my book is it will cover the entire suite, without giving an preferential treatment to any module. I will be, in my opinion, the broadest book on SAP SCM in the market when published.
